One Year Milestone

NESA celebrates one year milestone with the appointment of Professor John Underhill as new chair.

The National Energy Skills Accelerator (NESA) is celebrating its one year anniversary on July 1st. NESA is a not-for-profit organisation created to prepare the workforce for energy transition and provide a single point of contact for the industry to access a wide range of training and skills development programmes and R&D capabilities in its partner institutions.

Established in June 2021, NESA is a collaborative initiative between Robert Gordon University, the University of Aberdeen and North-East Scotland College and is supported by key partners Skills Development Scotland and Energy Transition Zone Ltd.

In its first year NESA has made significant progress, including agreeing a Hydrogen Skills Partnership with Scottish Power, Ballard Power and ITM Power and a Floating Wind Skills Accelerator partnership with Scottish Power Renewables and Shell. In addition, NESA is in conversations with a number of other consortia and companies to support the future energy workforce.

With the NESA chair role rotating between the participating institutions on an annual basis, NESA is also pleased to announce that Professor John Underhill (Director of Energy Transition, University of Aberdeen) will take over this key leadership role from Professor Paul de Leeuw (Energy Transition Institute Director, Robert Gordon University) for the coming year.

With NESA continuing to develop its scope and capabilities, it is looking forward to working with industry, government and other key stakeholders to play its part to set the future workforce up for success.
